Ready-to-Press Direct-to-Film (DTF) Transfers

Ready-to-press DTF transfers are full-colour heat transfers that can be applied to cotton, polyester, blends, canvas, denim, nylon, and other fabrics using a heat press or home iron. They are ideal for custom T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, caps, uniforms, and personalised apparel.

What Are DTF Transfers?

Direct-to-Film transfers, also called DTF prints, are designs printed onto a special transfer film using commercial pigment inks. The print is coated with adhesive powder, cured, and supplied ready to press onto fabric.

DTF transfers are popular because they do not require weeding, cutting, layering, or colour separation. They can print detailed artwork, small text, gradients, full-colour designs, bright whites, and rich dark tones in one ready-to-apply transfer.

Why Choose Ready-to-Press DTF Transfers?

Ready-to-press DTF transfers are suitable for crafters, small businesses, clothing brands, schools, sports teams, event suppliers, and anyone selling custom apparel.

  1. No weeding or cutting required
DTF transfers arrive printed and ready to apply.

  4. Full-colour print quality
DTF printing supports detailed graphics, gradients, photos, illustrations, and bold text designs.
  5. Suitable for small or bulk orders
Use single transfers for custom jobs or gang sheets to print multiple designs at once.
  6. Strong wash durability
Correct pressing and care help the transfer stay flexible, vibrant, and long-lasting.

Application and Pressing Instructions

For best results, use a heat press with firm, even pressure. Home irons and EasyPress machines can also be used, but pressure and surface stability are very important.

1. Pre-Press the Garment

Temperature: 160°C
Pressure: Light pressure
Time: 5 seconds

Pre-press the garment for 5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Place the DTF transfer film face-up on the fabric in the correct position.

2. First Press

Temperature: 160°C / 320°F
Pressure: Heavy pressure
Time: 12 to 30 seconds, depending on the fabric

Press the transfer firmly using a heat press. If using a home iron or EasyPress, turn off all steam settings and press straight down with strong, even pressure. Use a solid surface, not a padded ironing board.

3. Cold Peel

Allow the transfer to cool completely before peeling.

Do not peel while hot. Once the film is cool to the touch, peel the film back smoothly from one corner in one steady motion.

4. Final Post-Press

Temperature: 160°C
Pressure: Medium to heavy pressure
Time: 5 seconds

Cover the design with Teflon, parchment paper, or a finishing sheet. Press again for 5 seconds to seal the design into the fabric and improve wash durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DTF transfer?

A DTF transfer is a ready-to-press heat transfer printed onto film using pigment inks and adhesive powder. It is applied to fabric with heat and pressure, making it suitable for custom apparel and textile printing.

What fabrics do DTF transfers work on?

DTF transfers work on cotton, polyester, cotton-poly blends, nylon, canvas, denim, leather, and many other fabric types. They can be applied to light, dark, white, black, coloured, and heathered garments.

Can I use DTF transfers on black shirts?

Yes. DTF transfers work well on black shirts because the design includes a white ink layer that helps colours stay bright and visible on dark fabric.

Do DTF transfers need to be weeded?

No. DTF transfers do not need weeding, cutting, or layering. The design is supplied ready to press onto the garment.

Can I apply DTF transfers with a home iron?

Yes, DTF transfers can be applied with a home iron, but a heat press gives more consistent results. When using an iron, turn off steam, use a solid surface, press straight down, and apply firm pressure without sliding the iron.

Are DTF transfers better than HTV?

DTF transfers are often easier than HTV for full-colour designs because they do not require weeding, layering, or cutting. HTV is still useful for simple single-colour designs, but DTF is better for detailed artwork, gradients, photos, and multi-colour prints.

Are DTF transfers a good sublimation alternative?

Yes. DTF transfers are a strong sublimation alternative because they can be applied to cotton, dark fabrics, and many materials that standard sublimation cannot print on directly.

How long do DTF transfers last?

DTF transfers are designed for strong wash durability when pressed correctly and cared for properly. For best results, use the correct temperature, pressure, cold peel method, and final post-press step.
